DWP Extra £251 Payment for Families As Child Winter Heating Benefit 2024

As winter is coming, many families have to face the issue of rising heating costs mainly those who have disabled children and young people. To overcome this situation, Social Security Scotland announced the Child Winter Heating Payment. By this year, the payment will be increased by £251.50 and provide additional benefits to the families as the bills will get increased into the winter. There is an increase of £15.80 from last year’s.

This payment is mainly made to help families who have disabled children or young people less than the age of 19 years. The families who already get the various disability benefits are not required to reapply as they will get the payment automatically.

In the last year, 29000 families have benefited from this. In this year, it is expected the number of families is similar. In the last year the payment will get into November, but this year, they make sure that the payment will get into the month of October.

Eligibility Criteria to Get Extra £251

The children must be the age of 19 years old and must be residents of Scotland. The families who will get the below benefits are not required to apply for the payment separately. The benefits are:

  • The greatest percentage of the Child Disability Payment’s care component
  • The Personal Independence Payment’s increased daily living component (PIP)
  • The highest percentage of Disability Living Allowance for Children’s care component
  • The increased rate for Adult Disability Payment’s daily living component (ADP)

The individual must have to fulfill the qualifying week which is from September 16 to September 22 to get these benefits.

When Will the Payments Arrive?

As per the reports, the payments started in October. The exact dates are not been published but the Social Security Scotland make sure that the payment will be started soon. In case, if the families do not receive the payment by November mid then they can contact the agency.

In some unique cases, the persons who are not living in Scotland from September 16-22, 2024 get the benefits and payment. These benefits will get to some of the persons who:
